Project Location: Marco Island, FL
Soon after the City of Marco Island incorporated in 1997, RWA was hired to assist in the development of a Master Right-of-Way (ROW) plan. Working with design consultants, RWA participated in a planning, landscaping, and engineering study of approximately 24 miles of ROW within the city limits.
The project included long-range streetscape, transportation, and utility facility master planning within the public ROW. Typical sections for varying ROW widths were developed as guidelines for future redevelopment of the public infrastructure within the ROW. Landscaping schemes and landscape code enhancement recommendations were provided to City staff. Transportation planning included schematic designs for intersection build-out at varying locations throughout the city.
RWA provided utility, drainage, civil engineering, and land surveying and mapping support for the team. Responsibilities included orders of aerial photography, right-of-way mapping and topographic survey for specific projects. Due to the team's strong local familiarity, RWA’s ability to gather public input and acclimate the team to community issues quickly made them the logical choice to facilitate the public presentation process.
The outcome of the study resulted in the issuance of an official document that now serves as the framework for redevelopment of the public right-of-ways within the City of Marco Island. The master plan was completed in the spring of 2000 and delivered in accordance with the schedule and budget guidelines dictated by the city. The plan’s success has led to the city contracting with RWA on subsequent projects.
