RWA has nearly completed all work on a new 15,000 square foot facility for Lee County EMS’ Medstar Service. This project is located on approximately 1.5 acres at Page Field, a General Aviation airport in Lee County, and consists of two Advanced Life Support ground units, a two-bay hangar for air ambulances, a mobile emergency command center, living quarters, and administrative spaces. The site also includes an access road, parking, and a taxiway apron.
The site selection component of this project was an integral part of the site planning exercise conducted by RWA. Several sites were reviewed for their utility access, stormwater management complications, environmental concerns, site lines from the control tower, off site access for the ALS units, FAA antenna and communication equipment, and finally incorporating the desired building height and minimum requirements for supporting infrastructure to limit the lease area. Close coordination with the architect was needed to complete the site selection within the parameters desired by the client.
Project work included site improvements, sewer, water, and landscaping design to meet the City of Fort Myers and Stormwater Management District Codes. Water main relocation was required to allow for installation of a new taxiway apron to be installed. RWA also provided coordination with the architect, environmental consultant, landscape architect, electrical / site lighting engineer, and the geotechnical engineering consultants. Environmental concerns related to the endangered burrowing owl necessitated close coordination with County environmental staff to ensure proper mitigation and resolution of the permitting for the entire site.
Other services provided by RWA include pre-design topographic survey data and a boundary survey of the final site boundary with supporting easement descriptions for the lease area.
Construction began in the Summer of 2008 and occupancy is slated for the Fall of 2009. Total construction cost for this project is $4 million.
