On August 13, 2004, Neil Armstrong Elementary School feel victim to a devastating hurricane. Hurricane Charley destroyed the physical structure of Neil Armstrong Elementary but not the strength of its staff and students. The school was moved into a temporary modular campus on the grounds of Port Charlotte Middle School. Ground breaking for a state-of-the-art new school was held on October 11, 2006. A new Neil Armstrong will emerge in 2007 on the campus. The new building will be two stories and will consist of approximately 110,000 square feet. The school will have classroom seats for 904 students.
RWA provided professional land surveying services associated with the construction of Neil Armstrong Elementary School, located on approximately 10.4 acres in Port Charlotte, Florida. The scope of services provided included surveying staking and as-built services for; the construction of the associated site infrastructure; vibro piling, building and foundation layout of the main structure, physical education building, and chiller buildings; preparation of under construction foundation survey and a final as-built survey of the completed construction; and preparation of under construction and final FEMA Elevation Certificates for the new two-story school that was built to replace a school destroyed by Hurricane Charlie in 2004. The owners required that the project be completed within a 12-month time frame.
