Project Location: Port Charlotte, FL
On August 13, 2004, Hurricane Charley came charging through Charlotte Harbor and destroyed much of the physical structure, but not the spirit, of Peace River Elementary School. Due to the Hurricane’s damage, Peace River students and staff attended split sessions on the campus of Meadow Park Elementary from August 30, 2004 until May 2, 2005 when the spirit of Peace River Elementary, as well as the students and staff moved back home in a temporary modular campus. The new building will be two stories and will consist of approximately 110,000 square feet. The school will accommodate 904 students.
RWA provided surveying services for the Peace River Elementary School located on approximately 12.3 acres in Charlotte County, Florida. The scope of services provided included surveying staking and as-built services for; the construction of the associated site infrastructure; building and foundation layout of the main structure, physical education building, and chiller buildings; preparation of under construction foundation survey and a final as-built survey of the completed construction; and preparation of under construction and final FEMA Elevation Certificates for the new two-story school. Last minute changes to the project included the addition of 600 lineal feet of offsite roadway and utility improvements associated with the re-alignment of Beaver Lane. The owners required that the project and the last minute changes all be completed within the original 12-month time frame. The project was completed on time and the school opened on schedule.
