Project Location: Naples, FL
After three years in planning and design, the construction of Collier County's first overpass project started in the Fall of 2004. County officials hope to minimize traffic congestion by building a grade-separated overpass at the intersection of Golden Gate Parkway and Airport-Pulling Road. This “gateway” to the City of Naples will include a decorative bridge structure, street lighting, and substantial landscape improvements.
The project called for the three-mile reconstruction conversion of a rural four-lane to an urban six-lane roadway and construction of a grade-separated overpass. RWA provided consulting services in Surveying, Engineering, Planning, and Visualization. Survey work included a project design survey, sketch and descriptions for right-of-way takings and easements, and right-of-way map preparation. Along with services for the design and South Florida Water Management (SFWMD) permitting of a drainage and stormwater management plan, the RWA team also conducted geotechnical testing of the site. Transportation consulting services consisted of access management, traffic data analysis, preparation of roadway plans and specifications, relocation and coordination of utilities, lighting plans, signing and marking plans, signalization plans, maintenance of traffic plans, and design coordination and integration with the proposed I-75 interchange at Golden Gate Parkway.
The project required tremendous interagency and inter-design team coordination and cooperation to allow for incorporation of the recent construction of the Livingston Road extension and the proposed Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) I-75 Interchange at Golden Gate Parkway. The construction cost of the project was approximately $42 million and the project was completed in 2007.
