RWA Teams Up with Local Students to Help Feed the Hungry: CAN-struction '08

Local architects, engineers, and even middle school students teamed up this Halloween to enter the 2008 Canstruction design/build competition.

With the help of RWA Engineers, Bonita Springs Charter Middle School students built a colossal structure made entirely out of cans and related to the theme of Halloween.  The structure was called “CAN”dy corn. Students and RWA employees collected more than 1,500 cans to complete the project.

Judging took place on Saturday, Nov. 1, and RWA was awarded "Best Use of Labels" for our "CAN"dy Corn structure. The event was held at the Imaginarium Hands-On Museum and Aquarium in Fort Myers.

The event is sponsored by the Harry Chapin Food Bank, located in Fort Myers and serves all Southwest Florida; the American Institute of Architects, Florida Southwest Chapter; and the Florida Planning & Zoning Association.

The local event is part of an international competition to benefit hunger relief organizations. Following the event, the canned food was donated to the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
